Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr has taken office as treasurer for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), the Catholic Telegraph reported today.

The appointment, by conference president Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz, is effective immediately. Archbishop Schnurr replaces Bishop Kevin J. Farrell of Dallas, named by Pope Francis as the first prefect of the Vatican’s Laity, Family and Life Dicastery, established in April.

Archbishop Schnurr, elected to this new post in November, possesses a depth of experience and recognition as a financial and organizational administrator. Early in his priesthood, he served as finance officer for the Diocese of Sioux City, Iowa. In 1993 he organized the World Youth Day in Denver.

The archbishop is chairman of the Catholic Community Foundation, which oversees funds from One Faith, One Hope, One Love. He also chairs the Catholic Education Foundation for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, which oversees implementation of the tuition assistance program from campaign funds.
